Our aim is to provide an educational forum that fosters both academic and popular interest in authors associated with Cork such as William Trevor, KBE; Elizabeth Bowen, CBE; Edna O’Brien; Frank O’Connor; Seán O’Faoláin; Kate O’Brien; Molly Keane; Daniel Corkery; Somerville & Ross; Charles Kickham; Gerald Griffin; David Marcus; Canon Sheehan; James Francis Mahony (Fr. Prout); Teresa Deevy and Aloys Fleischmann.
Mitchelstown Cork
Mitchelstown (Irish: Baile Mhistéala) is a town in Cork, Ireland. Mitchelstown is situated in the valley to the south of the Galtee Mountains close to the Mitchelstown Caves. The River Gradoge runs by the town into the River Funshion, which in turn is a tributary of the River Blackwater.
Lecturers
Ireland’s county of Cork, has been blessed since ancient times with an abundance of artistic talent, and the fame of its poets, novelists, painters and musicians is known throughout the world. The Cork Writers’ School offers the chance to join in a celebration of that great flowering of talent, with the emphasis on its extraordinary literary achievement, in the convivial and beautiful surroundings of Mitchelstown and the Galtee mountains.
Kingston Arms
The Kingston Arms was originally built as an hotel circa 1780 by the Earl of Kingston. It forms part of one of the finest Georgian Squares in Ireland, laid out in a beautiful and tranquil landscaped area separated from Kingston College by a tree lined avenue which formerly led to Mitchelstown Castle.

    The Cork Writers' School, running for the first time in 2014, offers the chance to join in a celebration of that great flowering of talent, with the emphasis on its extraordinary literary achievement; learning about the authors who gave the Cork Writers' School its name, AND take the opportunity to become one of them by attending our new extensive creative writing programme, all in the convivial and beautiful surroundings of Mitchelstown and the Galtee mountains.

This scholarship honours the contribution of the internationally-renowned novelist and short story writer, William Trevor, to English literature. In addition to his work as a writer, marked by the award of a C.B.E in 1977 and a K.B.E. in 2002, he instigated and continues to finance the annual Trevor/Bowen International Short Story award.
